Preserving Afghan Cultural Arts
About Us
Preserving Afghan Cultural Arts, or PACA, envisions a world where the vibrant and diverse sounds of Afghan music are celebrated and made available for future generations. The recent ban on music has had a devastating impact on the country's rich musical heritage. Many musicians were forced to flee the country or abandon their careers, and countless musical instruments have been destroyed. In response, PACA was established to support and promote Afghan musical culture internally and externally. We are dedicated to upholding this rich musical heritage through fostering, archiving, and sharing the music and stories of Afghanistan's many diverse communities.
Our mission at PACA is to preserve, promote, and share Afghan music through various activities that recognize and celebrate its importance. We aim to provide a platform for Afghan musicians to showcase their talent, connect with each other, and collaborate with other musicians from around the world.
We will achieve our mission through the following activities:
-
Online music encyclopedia and archive: Contained within this website are numerous pages about different types of music from Afghanistan. These pages include musical histories, musician biographies, recordings, manuscripts, transcriptions, and other references that showcase the rich history and diversity of Afghan music.
-
Music events and festivals: We will organize informative events and festivals that promote Afghan music and musical culture. These events will provide a platform for Afghan musicians to perform, collaborate, and showcase their talent to both local and global audiences.
-
Music education and outreach programs: We will develop and implement music education and outreach programs that teach people about Afghan music, its history, and cultural significance. These programs will also provide opportunities for Afghan musicians to teach and share their knowledge with younger generations.
-
Musician support programs: We will provide support to Afghan musicians by offering resources such as equipment, funding, and networking opportunities. We will also work to create partnerships with music organizations and festivals around the world to promote the work of Afghan musicians.
Through these efforts, PACA aims to create a world where the music of Afghanistan is recognized, celebrated, and passed on to future generations. We believe that by sharing the sounds and stories of Afghan music we can also promote peace, cross-cultural understanding, and respect for diversity. Please support us by sharing our content, attending our events, and donating!
